Abstract.

High impact and fatigue resistance of ductile cast iron compared to another types of cast iron is defined by the spherical shape of graphite inclusions. The sphericity of graphite gradually disappears after the exposure of the liquid cast iron in the ladle during casting. This process was previously investigated and the influencing factors such as magnesium content, exposure time and temperature were determined. The complete disappearance of the graphite sphericity was also observed after ductile cast iron re-melting. The aim of this work was to study the kinetics of graphite shape transformation from spherical to lamellar in ductile cast iron during the re-melting process. The effect of heat treatment exposure on the shape of graphite inclusions was determined.
